Independence and Literacy Education for Adults with Disabilities (I-LEAD)
INDEPENDENCE AND LITERACY EDUCATION FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES (I-LEAD)
I-LEAD (Independence and Literacy Education for Adults with Disabilities) serves adults with intellectual disabilities through adult literacy and the exploration of other educational opportunities. The program’s hands-on and interactive classes are free of charge. Classes take place on Central Campus as well as community sites. The classes focus on areas such as basic academic components. In addition other classes include Community Service, Northstar Digital and Workforce Development. Our program will also offer Integrated Education & Training (IET). This course of study promotes academic preparation in math, reading, social studies, and science for college transfer and/or career readiness and specialized training for a variety of career pathways. Some of these career pathways include Library Aide and Theater/Ticket Booth/Usher for Visual Arts and Performance Arts Facilities.
Participants who complete I-LEAD may apply for the Project Search, a one-year internship class.
