Associate in Fine Arts in Theatre (A.F.A.)
The Associate in Fine Arts in Theatre is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to major in Theatre. The AFA in Theatre at Central Piedmont is part of the Uniform Articulation Agreement between the University of North Carolina Baccalaureate of Arts (BA) Programs and the North Carolina Community College System Associate in Fine Arts in Theater/Drama Programs. The AFA in Theatre has two tracks allowing students to specialize in either Performance or Technical Theatre. The AFA in Theatre requires 30 hours of general education core courses and 30 semester hours of courses in Theatre. Transfer students should contact the senior (four-year) institution for specific transfer requirements.

The following is the suggested course plan if you would like to complete the Associate in Fine Arts and transfer to a four-year school to major in drama/theatre. This plan is based on the program requirements of the 2025-2026 catalog. This is only a recommendation — you may take courses in another order upon consultation with your advisor. This plan is based on you starting with college-level math and English courses, starting your program in the fall, and attending full-time. You can also follow this sequence if you attend part-time.
