Center for Global Engagement
International experience is one of the most important components of a 21st-century education. Central Piedmont’s Center for Global Engagement prepares students and faculty for life and work in the global society by facilitating virtual and on-campus globally focused programming, equips students with global competencies and skills through the N.C. Scholar of Global Distinction Program, and provides opportunities to broaden perspectives and boost global industry relevant and foreign language skills with short-term, Faculty-Led Study Abroad and Domestic Travel with a Global Focus Programs.
Study Abroad and domestic travel with a global focus programs vary each year by location, instructors, and courses. Past destinations and departments have included:
- Welding or Automotive courses in South Africa and Italy
- Biology courses in Belize, South Africa, and Yellowstone National Park, and Costa Rica
- Criminal Justice courses in Ireland
- Communications course in France
- Baking & Pastry Arts or Culinary courses in Colombia, South Africa, and Italy
- Cosmetology course in the United Kingdom
- Language immersion in Peru, Germany, France, Ecuador, and Costa Rica
- Business courses in China, Brazil, and Ireland
- Humanities and History in Italy, Romania, Greece, South Africa, Portugal, and the United Kingdom
- Model United Nations conferences in New York, Boston, Atlanta, and Charlotte
- Service projects in Costa Rica, Jamaica, and South Africa
N.C. Scholars of Global Distinction is a unique partnership between UNC-Chapel Hill and N.C. Community Colleges, which enable participating students to expand their intercultural awareness and to understand the global relevance of their college studies. Requirements include completing global courses, attending international events and 30 hours of cultural immersion or study abroad. Central Piedmont offers numerous other internationally-focused activities, including international Service-Learning, study abroad and domestic travel with a global focus, and opportunities for community engagement.
