Academic Advising at Central Piedmont is integral to the college's mission, including educating students for life. Therefore, the college is committed to a process that is effective, caring, supportive, accessible, and equitable for all students. To foster total student development, Central Piedmont operates a comprehensive support system that brings together the expertise of advisors for academic and transfer services, counselors, faculty, and other staff from around the college.
Academic Advising
Advising at Central Piedmont is integral to the college's mission, including educating students for life. Advisors for academic and transfer services work to provide a range of support for students, including:
- Academic program planning, course selection, scheduling, and academic guidance
- Academic scheduling for students to meet their educational goals
- Assistance with career decision-making and selection of the most appropriate program of study
- Success coaching and educational planning
Advisors (academic and transfer) work with students during periods of transition, who wish to transfer to four-year colleges or universities, providing help when students re-enter college after time away or when they want to change their program of study. Advisors provide professional guidance for students as they begin their journey at the college. By talking with an advisor, students receive:
- recommendations about appropriate course placement and selection
- explanations of institutional policies and procedures
- assistance identifying strategies for success
- assistance in developing individualized educational plans
- guidance in the transition from high school to college
- guidance during periods of life transition and restarting college

TRANSFER SERVICES
Preparation for Successful Transfer to Four-Year Institutions
Transfer Services offers advising and support services to Central Piedmont students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university. Advisors assist students in selecting courses at Central Piedmont aligned with their intended major at their intended four-year institution and facilitate a smooth transition into their program. To assist transfer students in gathering information about senior (four-year) institutions, the office maintains a comprehensive website of resources which includes transfer degree plans for all UNC System schools.
Transfer Services houses and manages various transfer student programs, including the 49erNext Program (UNC-Charlotte), RoyalUp Program (Queens University of Charlotte) C-STEP (UNC-Chapel Hill), Pathway to Excellence (UNC-Wilmington), ASPIRE (Appalachian State), JCSU Connect (Johnson C. Smith University), and the Passport Program (UNC-Charlotte).
Transfer Tuesdays and Transfer Fairs
Transfer Services also brings admissions representatives from four-year institutions to Central Piedmont to talk with prospective transfer students through a program called Transfer Tuesdays. In addition to individual college visits, the office hosts a college transfer fair each semester, bringing representatives from colleges and universities from across North Carolina and the southeast to Central Piedmont.
