Education Residency Licensure Certificate
Central Piedmont offers multiple Residency Licensure Certificate Programs designed to prepare individuals to teach in North Carolina public schools or approved private institutions through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI) residency licensure pathway. These programs prepare future educators to teach in the following areas:

Students receive focused preparation in learning theory, instructional and educational technology, culturally responsive teaching, supporting diverse learners, school policies and procedures, educator responsibilities, content-specific instructional strategies, formative and summative assessment, data-informed instruction, and effective classroom management.
Graduates are prepared to meet general pedagogical competencies and demonstrate effective teaching practices aligned with NC DPI residency guidelines. Completion of a residency licensure certificate alone does not guarantee licensure. Licensure is contingent upon meeting all state requirements, which may include pre-service training, employment in a qualifying residency position, successful completion of required assessments, and compliance with the North Carolina Teacher Evaluation System.

Admissions
Those eligible for the program are people with a Bachelor’s degree who are employed at an elementary school or have a job proposal and have a cumulative GPA of 2.7. If a student does not meet the GPA requirement, we have a grade elevate program that students can take EDU courses outside of the residency courses to boost their GPA.

All residency students must meet with the EPP director to discuss and plan their courses as well as to sign the required documentation for the NC DPI to be officially enrolled in the program. Any questions can be directed to the EPP Director/Program Chair.
Elementary Education Residency Licensure Certificate (C55490)
The Elementary Education Residency Licensure Certificate prepares individuals to teach as licensed elementary educators in qualifying public school settings through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI) residency licensure pathway. The program includes preparation in learning theory, instructional and educational technology, diverse learners, content‑specific instructional strategies, assessment and data‑informed instruction, classroom management, and professional responsibilities of educators. Graduates are prepared to demonstrate foundational pedagogical competencies and effective teaching practices aligned with NC DPI residency requirements. Completion of the certificate alone does not guarantee licensure; licensure is contingent upon employment in an approved residency position, successful completion of required assessments, and fulfillment of all NC DPI requirements.

Elementary Education Private Institution Residency Certificate (C55280-C1)
The Elementary Education Private Institution Residency Certificate Program prepares individuals for instructional roles in elementary education settings and provides foundational pedagogical preparation aligned with North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI) residency standards. Coursework emphasizes learning theory, instructional technology, diverse learners, instructional strategies, assessment practices, classroom management, and professional responsibilities of educators. This program results in a certificate of completion. It may lead to eligibility for residency licensure only if the candidate is employed by an NC DPI‑approved private institution participating in the residency licensure process. Students employed in non‑approved private institutions will earn the certificate but will not be eligible for a North Carolina teaching license based solely on program completion.
